shall I post questions here about engine tuning?
now with 113 miles on the odometer since rebuild and I'm wondering if all is 'normal', having nothing to compare this with.

The 25/6 gear seems too tall, only allowing for accelerating downhill.

My apologies for posting in English. I can read most of this site via Google-translation.

Groeten,
-Scott

Hi Scott,

The 25/6 gear is the same as mine. That's the "long" version as delivered with the early R27's. Later R27 got the 27/6 gear because clients were complaining. I've used both and for me it did not make much of a difference. Topspeed was about the same, some 65-70 mph, good conditions. More or less about 45-50 is comfortable. No problem to use 4th gear. Anyway, my brother's R26 is much faster :S. I should think there is something else going on with your bike.

Regards,
Roelof Jan

Thanks for the information, Roelof Jan.
Interestingly, I spoke with an R26 rider last weekend who reported a surprisingly quick run just prior to our meeting... of course there are a lot of variables.
His engine just turned 500mi since rebuild.
With mine not much over 100, I'll continue its running-in with care.
Groeten,
Scott

That looks great! It's so fun to see the same bikes on the other end of the world. Nice! Do you see anything useful in the mirror

Best regards,
Roelof Jan

reproduction Albert mirrors:
For me and my set-up I find them better than one might guess.
I like to ride with my knees holding the tank, which must help.;)

While higher mirrors (closer to eye level) are arguably more ideal, I still look over the top of my hand into these, and a glance is usually all that's needed.
With both varieties of mirrors I will move my head around to increase the field of view, as would most riders, I believe.

Jim's R26 again, with the same mirrors (but I didn't ask).
The small fairing is cut-down from a damaged 'S' fairing. Tall as he is, he must fold up tightly to fit behind that.
Good that he has the rear footpegs as well.

Today with fresh oil the R27 was a delight to ride. Its character improves with each outing. Now the idle as settled down and the bike feels comfortably happy.
